Disney’s California Grill: Our Fifth Anniversary

When people talk about California Grill at the Contemporary Resort, a choir of angels sing Handel overhead. Both Adam and I decided to have our fifth anniversary dinner at the Grill where we could watch the Wishes fireworks and have fabulous food! We both kind of forgot there was an observation deck for the fireworks, so we watched Wishes from the bar. I was between a French Martini and a Golden Gate Martini, but I eventually tried both by the end of the night and was promptly flung into sweet libation heaven. After the Wishes, a sudden crowd flooded the restaurant as they shuffled toward the elevators. That’s when we remembered that there was an the observation deck, but enough of the crowds because the meal was fabulous! I liked the goat cheese raviolli so much that I made a quasi version of the plate at home for my Osars viewing party. Here’s our California Grill dinner rundown:

  • Snake in the Grass Sushi Roll
  • Sonoma Goat Chease Raviolli with Sun-Dried Tomatoes, Pesto, Shiitaki Mushrooms, and Basil
  • Pork Tenderloin with Goat Cheese Polenta, Roasted Mushrooms, Zinfandel Glaze, and Sage
  • Medium-Rare Filet of Beef, Dauphinoise Potatoes with Smoked Bacon, Ginger-Scented Carrots and Yellowfoots with  Port Sauce

Adam and I talked, laughed, and gathered ideas for our spring herb garden. If California Grill is about anything, it’s about subtle, fresh garnishes paired with entrées for fabulous flavor stories!  Adam and I also shared our courses, which is always one of my favorite parts of dining at a new restaurant. California Grill will definietly be an option for future anniversaries.

    Adam’s hat is awesome!!

The hat was for a friend’s themed wedding — everyone had to wear fancy hats! Adam’s been getting mileage out of it ever since. Good thing he looks so handsome in it! 🙂

  3. I’m staying at Disney for a few days after Food Blog Forum Orlando and this restaurant is on my list! I can’t wait to try it out. Looks like you had a wonderful time!

    1. Yay! I’m also staying at Disney for the Food Blog Forum too. Just to give you a better idea: The Capital Grille is in a similar restaurant category to Shula’s Steak House in Disney’s Dolphin Resort except Shula’s is not open for lunch, but I love both. Oh and if you find yourself at Shula’s, the chocolate molten lava cake is seduction on a plate. I hope you enjoy The Capital Grille, and see you at the Food Blog Forum!
