Jeremiah’s Italian Ice in Maitland

What have I been up to these days? Trying to live life to the coolest! Mr. Forkful and I have taken Jeremiah’s Italian Ice motto to heart ever since our college days — he was the first person to introduce me to the transcendent layering of Italian ice and vanilla soft serve ice cream. Whenever we find ourselves in East Orlando, we find an excuse to visit a Jeremiah’s.

Jeremiah’s Italian Ice makes all their different flavors of Italian ice fresh daily at each of their five locations; Lake Mary, Winter Springs, University of Central Florida, Maitland, and Winter Park. Hot Floridians and their lucky out-of-town friends can order a layered gelati (Italian ice and soft serve swirl), Italian ice, or a classic chocolate-vanilla soft serve swirl.

I can’t remember what we were doing in Maitland that particular afternoon, but by the proximity of the Maitland Jeremiah’s to the Enzian, it was probably time for a post-movie gelati. Adam decided on a swirl of lime Italian ice and vanilla soft serve, and I went with the black raspberry-vanilla gelati. The lime was full of tart, face-puckering goodness but makes a great pair with its creamy vanilla counterpart. The black raspberry is a more intense raspberry, which I paired with classic vanilla. Years of pilgrimages to multiple Jeremiah’s locations have taught me that a bad gelati flavor decision is next to impossible.

Rita’s swirls their Italian ice with frozen custard, which is soft serve ice cream’s thicker, richer cousin. Both Rita’s and Jeremiah’s appear to love possessives and definitely serve delicious gelatis. Everything just depends on the day; Jeremiah’s light and fruity or Rita’s rich and creamy?
